What is iMap?
iMap stands for individuals Making autism positive and the name was chosen by the parents of our young people. Our main centre is based at Barrowmore. We are a centre of Autism Excellence and provide an outstanding range of autism-specific services for both children and adults.
Our day-to-day approach
Our day-to-day approach is underpinned by highly qualified clinical, care, therapeutic and educational staff. We have individualised and progressive pathways to maximise people’s independence. Our staff are passionate about and committed to quality care – ‘We take the time to do things properly’.

Our aim is to provide high quality personalised services that offer the best possible outcomes for children, young people and adults with learning disabilities and autism.

iMap – individuals Making autism positive- was born in 2010, growing out of a long established service that had offered support and care to children and young people in the Cheshire West area.

In the last couple of years iMap has been asked to develop its services for adults allowing a greater degree of consistency of care for our service users.

For the parents and families of children with a diagnosis of autism trying to meet the educational, social, emotional and care needs of their child with autism can be a daunting task. At iMap we offer a bright, vibrant, honest and effective service based on respect, mutual understanding and an open and transparent partnership. We know that children all have individual needs and we will work openly with parents and professionals, learn how best to look after children in our care. We work hard to make sure that we use plain language and do not hide behind professional jargon, so we can avoid confusion, mistakes and frustration; we keep it clear and simple. We will not be embarrassed to say ‘WE DON’T KNOW’ but we will always help.

iMap Centre is committed to increasing the participation of children, young people  and adults with autism in all aspects of living and learning and helping them to make a positive contribution to society. Our aim is for iMap service users to get the most out of life.

Our Aims
To ensure and celebrate high standards of achievement for all children, young people and adults including personal and social development by:

Addressing the autism of each service user
Having high expectations for each service user
Joint target setting and continuous assessment
Celebrating achievements
Using personalised individual planning and monitoring service users progress
Using internal and external accreditation at the individual level of each student
Enhancing self-confidence and self-esteem through praise and reward

To build and foster partnership with parents, carers, external agencies and the local community by:

Maintaining a regular dialogue with parents and carers by operating an open door policy
Holding multi-disciplinary educational annual reviews
Hosting and contributing to statutory child care reviews for looked after children (LAC)
Providing active integration into community resources
Continually seeking and responding to feedback from all stakeholders

To ensure each young person’s knowledge, skills and understanding are developed by:

Training for choice, decision making and increasing independence
Regular assessment, target setting and review
Using a 24-hour curriculum
Creating with each young person an individual education and care programme
Offering a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum

To value and support all of our colleagues through:

A commitment to regular, high quality in-service training
Team development underpinned by performance management, appraisal and supervision systems
Enabling communication at all levels through staff meetings
Encouraging membership of professional bodies and unions
Networking and interacting with other establishments

To facilitate transition to adult services by:

Developing self-advocacy skills through improving the young person’s communication
Developing independence and independent living skills through a differentiated transition curriculum
Providing every young person with a transition/pathway plan in conjunction with the Local Authority and with parents and carers
Working with the Careers Service and other agencies to develop the young person’s transition plan, starting when the young person is 14 years old

To ensure equality of access and opportunity by:

Appointing a residential key worker for each young person
Ensuring all planning is person-centred and regularly reviewed
Providing an individualised and differentiated curriculum with a high staff-to-young person ratio offering whole-centre communication systems and intra-disciplinary working, where appropriate
