Oldbury Academy
At Oldbury Academy we recognise the ever changing multi-cultural, multi-faith and diverse nature of our community and the wider world. We live in a society whereby it is essential that our students are neither the victim not perpetrator of any type of discrimination, intimidation or radicalisation. We recognise our role in ensuring that our students develop the skills, character and attributes to play a positive part in modern Britain.
We aim to serve our community in its entirety, regardless of nationality, sexuality, gender religion, disability, financial status or political ideology. We do this by seeking eliminate all forms of discrimination towards any individual or group. We teach our students that this is the right way to think and act.
The key British Values that must be taught in all schools are as follows….

At Oldbury Academy these key values are embedded in and permeate through our curriculum and beyond. From RE teaching about different faiths to Geography teaching about our environmental responsibilities and English looking at war poetry all subject areas have a part to play.
Students engage in our Votes for Schools programme during form time each week. This teaches students not just about the topical issue for the week but also lends itself to develop their understanding of democracy, the importance of mutual respect for different opinions and a tolerance for those with different ideas and beliefs to themselves. Within this safe and secure environment the students can exercise their individual liberty – to make their own informed choices.
We also celebrate and recognise a range of celebratory events throughout the year – Black History Month, Remembrance Day and Pride Month.
Above all high expectations that we have of students, reinforced through our CARE ethos, encourage an appreciation of these values.
Our teaching of SMSC permeates through the curriculum and is supported by Votes for Schools, drop down days and assemblies.
